Mountain View College Nursing Department Receives Major Recognition

This article appeared in the July 30, 2019, issue of the student newsletter.

The Mountain View College Nursing program is familiar with success inside the classroom. Now, it receives national kudos.

According to RNCareers.org, MVC has one of Texas’ top-three Nursing programs for an associate degree. Out of 58 schools evaluated, MVC finished near the top of the list, behind only Laredo Community College and Howard College.

The rankings come courtesy of information obtained from engaging with the Texas State Board of Nursing to look at each institution’s first-time National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) pass rates. The NCLEX-RN is a nationwide exam for licensing nurses in the United States. In 2018, MVC’s Nursing program proudly boasted a 100% NCLEX-RN pass rate for the program’s 28 graduates. The average pass rate for the 58 schools listed in RNCareers’ report came in at 85.9%.

“This honor really proves how hard our faculty and students work to achieve the ultimate goal,” says Cherlyn Shultz-Ruth, MVC’s executive dean of allied health and nursing. “These students are truly amazing and great.”

Mountain View College admitted its inaugural class of Nursing students in the fall of 2011 and has grown to celebrate a new class of graduates every semester.
