Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Certificates

Take just one class and earn an elite university certificate — for DCCCD tuition rates!

Why Participate?

International Honors Certificates (IHC) online courses are:

  • Fast: Certificate plans consist of just one three-credit-hour class and take as little as four to six weeks to complete.
  • Accessible: Courses are taught 100% online.
  • Affordable: Through Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, IHC courses cost the same as a regular three-hour credit course. There is no extra cost for books and fees. It's all online.
  • Meaningful: You can earn three credit hours from the DCCCD college you attend and receive an International Honors Certificate from one of the world's top universities.
  • Impactful: IHC courses include a capstone to help you develop a personal plan to study abroad and locate and apply for scholarships.

Who Is Eligible?

You do not need to be a member of Phi Theta Kappa to enroll. However, you:

  • Must be enrolled as a student at a college of the Dallas County Community College District
  • Must have already completed 12 credit hours
  • Must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA

How Are These Courses Graded?

The Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Certificate courses are offered on a Pass/Fail basis only. If you pass the course, you receive a grade of CR; if you do not pass, you receive a grade of F.

What Certificate (IHC) Online Courses Can I Take? 

Students are limited to taking one IHC online course per semester.

IHC online courses are equivalent to the following DCCCD courses:

UCLA Anderson:

Global Entrepreneurship
This certificate provides you with the core concepts to create a global business plan, get it funded and successfully grow your business.

Upon completion of this course, you will receive an International Honors Certificate from UCLA Anderson in addition to college credit for any one of the following classes:

  • BUSI 1301 81465 (Fall only): Introduction to Business or
  • BUSG 2309 83465 (Spring only): Small Business Management/Entrepreneurship

University of Johannesburg:

Organizational Leadership
In this Certificate, you will learn to effectively lead in the global context of the 21st century. You gain powerful leadership roadmaps, approaches and tools that will enable you to inspire and lead people effectively within an organizational setting.

Upon completion of this course, you will receive an International Honors Certificate from the University of Johannesburg in addition to college credit for any one of the following classes:

  • HRPO 2307 81465 (Fall only): Organizational Behavior or
  • IBUS 2341 83465 (Spring only): Inter Cultural Management

University of South Carolina:

International Business Human Resources
This certificate teaches you how to balance corporate policies with local customs so you can manage successfully in a global workplace.

Upon completion of this course, you will receive an International Honors Certificate from the University of South Carolina in addition to college credit for any one of the following classes:

  • HRPO 2301 81465 (Fall only): Human Resources Management or
  • IBUS 1305 83465 (Spring only): Introduction to International Business and Trade

Beijing Language and Culture University:

Contemporary Chinese Culture
This certificate will help you better understand a powerful demographic in the global workplace.

Upon completion of this course, you will receive an International Honors Certificate from the Beijing Language and Culture University in addition to college credit for any one of the following classes:

  • HIST 2321 81465 (Fall only): World Civilizations or
  • ENGL 2332 83465 (Spring only): World Literature

How Do I Enroll?

  1. Determine whether you are eligible.
  2. Consult with your PTK advisor or contact the Richland College online advisor with questions.
  3. Choose which of the four international certificates you would like to earn.
  4. Choose which of the classes you would like to receive college credit for and make a note of the course number.
  5. Contact the Richland Online Advisor at RLC-OnlineAdvising@dcccd.edu to register for the course.
