Beauty and the Beast Character Descriptions:
A vibrant, intelligent girl with beauty, who wants more out of life than an ordinary existence. She is optimistic, spunky, fun-loving, caring, independent, eager to experience life. Age/look: 18-25 Strong singer/actor required. Dance minimal.
A cook who is becoming a teapot. Warm-hearted, maternal, loyal, caring, playful. Age/look mature.
French maid, who is becoming a feather duster. Saucy, playful, flirtacious. Age/look: 18-30
Madame De La Grande Bouche
Italian opera diva who is becoming a wardrobe. She has a larger-than-life personality; yet is caring and refined. Age/look could vary, but appear more mature than Belle.
3 Silly Girls
VERY, giggly, over-the-top dramatic girls. They hang on Gaston's every last word and swoon over him. The provide great comic relief and could be played with French accents. A trio of strong singers, who can handle harmony. Should be singers who can move and will double in the ensemble.
Featured dancer role in opening prologue. Also doubles in ensemble.
A prince transformed into a terrifying beast for his lack of compassion. He is hot-tempered, impatient, angry, & commanding - but has a warm, loving heart buried far beneath his gruff exterior. Our intention is to cast one character to be both Beast and the transformed Prince in finale. Age/look: 18-30 Strong singer/actor with great physicality/stage presence.
The egotistical, ultra-masculine villain determined to marry Belle. Physically handsome, but shallow, completely self-centered,
The dim-witted, bumbling sidekick to Gaston. He is loyal, energetic, optimistic, but definitely not the brightest guy. Comic timing is critical. Age/look could vary. Strong character actor comfortable with physical comedy.
Belle's loving, gentle, eccentric father. A child at heart and an inventor in his own world. Despite being a bit scatter-brained, there is no mistaking his steadfast love for Belle. Age/look: 45-65 Strong actor with some singing.
English major-domo of the castle who is becoming a mantle clock and the head of the Beast's household. He is tightly-wound, uptight, strict, and punctual but also hard-working, faithful, and thorough. Age/look could vary. Requires excellent high British accent. Strong character actor who sings.
French maitre d' who is becoming a candelabra. A romantic, suave & debonair host; also loyal and steadfast. Age/look could vary. MUST speak with French accent. Strong singer/character actor. Should move well.
The scheming proprietor of the local insane asylum. He is dark, sinister and aides Gaston in the plot to dispose of Maurice. Age/look - mature.
FEATURED CHILD ROLE
Mrs. Potts' son who is becoming a teacup. Innocent, bright-eyed, expressive, playful. Age/look: 7-10 (Must have unchanged voice)
Wolves, Enchanted Objects, Townspeople
The ensemble is VERY involved in the show throughout and involve many feature opportunities (several named roles - Baker, Bookseller, Narrator, Enchantress, Young Prince, etc) with featured dance, solo lines, etc. The ensemble carries songs like Belle, The Mob Song, Gaston, Be Our Guest, and Human Again. Featured dancers will be needed as well as strong singer/actors. Gymnastic ability will be a plus.
6 children (ages 8-12) for dancing ensemble in Be Our Guest, and possibly in initial crowd scene for Belle. MUST be strong movers.
