The Departments of Outreach & Community Development partner with a number of education, non-profit and corporate entities to deliver a variety of programs to the community. Contact
Perla Molina if you are interested in participating as a vendor or volunteer.
Some of the key programs that focus on community development include:
Be the ChangeThe Department of Outreach & Community Development implements “Be the Change”, an annual day of service where participants come together to give back to the community in the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi’s famous quote, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. Participants include DCCCD college students and employees, plus their family and friends. Participants walk away with a free t-shirt, but more importantly, they leave feeling good about doing something positive for the community. This program is usually held during the spring semester.
Día de la Familia/Family DayThe District Department of Outreach & Community Development partners with a DCCCD college and local vendors to present a day of fun and activities for community members during the Día de la Familia/Family Day event each spring. The free program includes food, entertainment and educational sessions, as well as health screenings and giveaways. The event started over 20 years ago in an effort to encourage families to engage with DCCCD college programs and services, and continues to grow each year.
Las Llaves del Éxito/Keys to SuccessThe District Department of Outreach & Community Development leads a collaboration with the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Dallas ISD, area colleges and universities, non-profit organizations, local media and corporate sponsors to present Las Llaves del Éxito/Keys to Success each semester. The event features an opening session with greetings from local leaders in government and higher education. Students in grades 6-12 and parents attend workshops about navigating the higher education system while learning about subjects such as financial aid and scholarships. The highly successful event has been held for over a decade, serving thousands of area families.
The mission of Community, Resource and Economic Development is to identify, develop and manage resources that support the college and community needs and contribute to student success.
