What do I need to do to get ready for tutoring?

Do you need some tutoring? Here's a list of things to do before you come in to see us!

  • Bring your textbook and any notes you've taken in your class. This will make it easier for us to look up any info we need from those sources.
  • Bring any previous problems that you've worked already. The more work you have done before you get here, the more we can help you. Try it on your own before you come in, and bring what you've already done with you.
  • Keep in mind that this is YOUR homework, and that you'll be the one doing the work.
  • Please remember that preparing for a test or writing a paper takes time. We can't help you much if you show up 15 minutes before test time/the paper is due.
  • Proofreading is part of the writing process, and we will not write your paper for you. Our goal is to help you become an independent learner, so we will happily help you learn to proofread for yourself.
  • For writing, please print out a copy of your paper before we start working. Typed is easier to read than handwritten, and laptops are notoriously awkward for two people to work on at once.
  • Ask yourself questions about your assignment. You might be surprised at how much you know!
  • Be ready to learn and have some fun!

Now we realize that many of you already do many of these things. And we're happy to help you do them, too! The more you can do beforehand, though, the smoother and more productive your tutoring experience can be!
