How to Apply for Federal Stafford Loans and Federal PLUS Loans
To apply for federal loan programs (Stafford Loan and PLUS), the student must:
- Have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available on www.fafsa.ed.gov and make sure it is sent to Cedar Valley College (federal school code 014035);
- Register for at least 6 credit hours on or before the 12th class day of each Fall and Spring semester;
- Maintain at least half-time enrollment (6 credit hours) and certified as attending those classes by each instructor;
- Meet the Financial Aid Standards of Academic Progress(! Coming Soon !);
- Not be on default on any federal loans. For parent PLUS loan borrowers, the parent borrower must also not be on default on federal loans.
In addition, beginning Fall 2005:
- Stafford Loan borrowers must attend a Loan Counseling session to obtain a Stafford Loan application. Stafford Loan applications will no longer be available for pick-up at the front counter, counseling dates are available at the financial aid office.
- For PLUS loan borrowers, the parent borrower must fill out a PLUS Loan Request form and submit to our office either by fax, by mail, or in person.
