Computer Hardware/Software Requirements
You will need at the least a computer, modem and a connection to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider. The more up-to-date and faster your equipment is, the better off you will be. Check with the instructor to see what an individual course will require.
Before signing up for a Distance Learning course, you should already possess fundamental computer literacy skills. These include:
- Moderate experience with using a computer, adequate for using all of the software and hardware required for the course.
- Ability to access and retrieve information on the computer.
- Ability to receive and submit assignments and other course materials.
- Basic use of a word-processing program.
- Ability to send and receive e-mail including the use of attachments.
- Ability to download files.
- A good understanding of the WWW and its use, enough so that you are able to navigate from one site to another; and to do searches if they are part of an assignment
If you will be using your home computer, it is a good idea to develop an alternate plan for being able to use another computer, just in case you experience a problem with your computer or your Internet Service Provider.
