Office Technology

Whether you want to be an executive assistant, update your software skills, or gain entry into any number of high-demand office careers, Cedar Valley College can provide you with the professional skills that employers seek.

As part of our Office Technology program, you will have access to:
  • A variety of career choices
  • Challenging academic opportunities
  • An Associate Degree and three Certificate programs

Cooperative Education

Cooperative Education offers you the opportunity to earn college credit while working in an office. Two important aspects of this on-the-job training program include:
  • Human relations in the business environment
  • Development of your professional image

If you are currently working at least 15 hours per week in a secretarial/clerical position, consider Cooperative Education as a way to link classroom studies with practical knowledge gained "on-the-job."

Tech Prep

The Office Technology program at Cedar Valley College has been approved by the state of Texas for Tech Prep with high schools in the Dallas metroplex. Students in high school should contact their counselor to find out how they can become a Tech Prep student and receive college credit for Office Technology courses completed in high school.

Degree Plans

Associate Degree:
The Associate Degree program, Executive Assistant, can help you gain the skills required for advancement in today's business environment. The comprehensive curriculum is designed as an advanced level program to prepare students for executive assistant and computer support positions in an office environment. Students will use state-of-the-art technology to develop skills necessary to become a productive member of the business community.

Whatever your choice of training in the Associate Degree program, there are courses to sharpen your skills for the exciting challenges of a professional office career.
  • Microsoft Office XP
  • Word Processing
  • Computer Applications (spreadsheets, database, presentations)
  • Desktop publishing
  • Keyboarding, Office Procedures, Office Calculating Machines
  • Business Communications I (Business English)
  • Business Communications II (letter and report writing)
  • Professional Development for Office Personnel
  • Cooperative Education (credit for on-the-job experience)

Certificates:
Certificates offered in Office Technology are:
  • Administrative Support - prepares students for a successful career as an office professional.
  • Office Assistant - prepares student for entry-level positions requiring basic office skills.
  • Software Application Specialist - provides a benchmark for students to measure their computer skills using Microsoft Office software.

Certificate programs are TASP Exempt!
