Photo of Dr. Tim Sullivan Dr. Tim Sullivan, Program Coordinator.
Dr. Sullivan has been teaching Sociology, Anthropology and History courses (as well as occasionally, Philosophy, World Religions and Religion in American Culture) at Cedar Valley College since its opening in 1977.He has also taught at the University of Texas at Arlington, various campuses in the D.C.C.C.D., and Central Texas College, at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. He received his B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Southern California, his M.A. in Conservation Archaeology from Southern Methodist University, and his Ph.D. in History (the Transatlantic History Program) at the University of Texas at Arlington. He has also taken 30 hours of graduate Sociology at the University of North Texas. Dr. Sullivan's chief research/teaching interests include general anthropology, historical/underwater archaeology, cross-cultural interaction, global history and the emergence of the modern global system, the Caribbean and Latin American history, seventeenth and eighteenth-century pirates, social theory, comparative religion and applied sociology/anthropology. In his leisure time, Dr. Sullivan enjoys traveling, reading, exercising (he is a health enthusiast), and listening to a broad range of music.

In addition to a B.A. and M.A. in Sociology at the University of Texas at Arlington, Ms. Taylor West has received additional graduate training in Psychology and Government. Ms. Taylor West spent twenty years in municipal government, working with a variety of public agencies, including law enforcement, water/environment, geographic technology, public education and public relations. This experience, along with having spent most of her life in the DFW area, provides Ms. Taylor West with a contemporary, community oriented examples throughout her lectures. Her teaching interests include Women's Topics, Marriage & Family, Human Relations, Applied Psychology, Human Sexuality and Social Problems. Her dedication to teaching won Ms. Taylor West a recent Honorable Mention for "Exemplary Teacher Award" in the Fort Worth Star Telegram. At home, Ms. Taylor West relaxes with her two teacup poodles, Willie and Winnie.

A native of Eritra, in East Africa, Ms. Selam Hailemariam received a B.A. in Anthropology from the State University of New York, Cortland in 1998. She entered graduate school at the University of Indiana, where she was awarded the Liebenow Fellowship for Outstanding Minority Graduate Students. Ms. Hailemariam returned to her homeland in 2001, and again in 2003, to complete work toward a Master's Degree, concentrating on Arabic and the East/Sub-Saharan Africa and Middle East geographic areas. She received her M.A. in Anthropology and African Studies in 2004. With an interest in the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa, Development Anthropology, Women's Studies and a background in Linguistics, Selam has taught courses in Field Studies, Linguist
