FMT Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we called Family Music Theatre?

We focus on providing top quality music theatre productions each semester, advocating and promoting family values.

Who benefits from our programming?

Our college faculty and students and the service community at large; the performers who come from many walks of life and areas of the city; the hundreds of elementary students who are treated to our free Friday matinée excerpts. The Family Music Theatre program brings people to the CVC campus who develop a familiarity with the campus and a sense of connection with the college and the concept of higher education.

What does the CVC Family Music Theatre offer?

  • ENTERTAINMENT: Top quality, "family friendly" music theatre productions with uplifting themes. Our original tradition of free admission made the live theatre experience available to everyone, regardless of social or economical status. Our current low admission prices support our ever-growing productions, yet continue to encourage a broad audience base. We are currently seeking grants and additional funding from outside corporations, individuals, and organizations who would desire to support our unique program.
  • EDUCATION: For program participants: Quality training and experience in all aspects of music theatre production - rehearsal and performance process, set design and construction, costuming, make-up, acting and music performance skills; camaraderie and a strong sense of family, mutual support. For audience members: Special matinees for elementary school children provide an introduction to and develops an appreciation for theatre and the performing arts in general.
  • OPPORTUNITY: For self-expression, personal growth and development, team building and leadership skills, for individuals of all ability and experience levels.
For college credit: FMT shows are the products of DRAMA 1120, 1221, and 1323.
