Costs & Required Equipment

CVC Academy requirements include scoring at least a 78 on the reading comprehensive portion of the Accuplacer test (administered at the Cedar Valley College Testing Center). If you have already taken the exam, or a comparable exam, or you are considered "Reading Ready" by DCCCD standards, you do not have to take the exam. There is no charge to take the exam. Interested persons may contact the academy at (972) 860-8289 and schedule the Accuplacer exam.

Once you have passed the Accuplacer, you will be given a packet of information for further processing, to include a criminal history check, ($40.00), fingerprint card to DPS, ($15.00), a physical and drug screen at your family physician, and a psychological exam, (approx. $100.00).

The cost of the course is $1,200.00, paid out in 4 installments of $300.00 each. Uniforms are approximately, $150.00. During the first week of the academy, cadets will need to purchase books, (approx. $250.00). Throughout the academy, cadets will need to purchase additional equipment that consists of handcuffs, collapsible baton, and duty belt gear. During the last phase of the academy, cadets will need to purchase ammunition (approximately $300.00 and $60.00 range fees). Weapons are provided by the academy. Upon completion of the academy, cadets will be presented with a certificate of eligibility to take the TCLEOSE Peace Officer Licensing Examination. The examination will be given at Cedar Valley College and will cost cadets $40.00. Also on completion of this academy you will be given the opportunity thru Excelsior College to be awarded 30 college credits.

Academy Uniforms

Shirt- Style 1574 khaki short sleeve, purchased from Uniform Inc. (After registration in BPOC). S thru XL $17.50, 2XL thru 4XL- $21.50, 5XL- $21.80. Academy patch sewed on left sleeve, Academy badge patch sewed above left pocket, and silver name tag (first initial and last name) above right pocket. (Patches will be purchased from CVC at the time of registration and sewed on by Uniform Inc. at the time of purchase of shirt. Name tag may be purchased at Uniforms Inc., $5.95).
Pants- Style 874 khaki, purchased from Uniform Inc. (After registration in BPOC). Waist size 26-44- $21.50, waist size 46-50- $23.75. Hemmed at Uniform Inc. at time of purchase.
Ball Cap- Police Blue with Academy logo embroidered on face of cap. Purchased from CVC at the time of registration.
Belt- Smooth black leather belt with plain silver buckle. (Optional to be purchased at Uniforms Inc.).
Footwear- Black leather, military style, dress shoe, or police style boot, plain leather style with no stitching on toe. Footwear will be shined to a high gloss.

Physical Fitness Training Uniform

PT Shirt- Red JerZee pullover style, no collar, 50/50 blend. White silk screen with Academy badge silk-screened on left chest and cadet last name on right chest. "Police Academy" silk-screened on back. Small thru large are $7.00. 2X are $8.50. 3X are $9.00. Logo stenciling cost is approximately $5.00 each per shirt. (Class order will be taken on first day of class and purchased at Blue Eagle, DeSoto Texas).
PT shirts or sweats- Police blue or black workout shorts, or red sweats. (Void of any markings, with the exception of manufacturers logo. (If red sweats are purchased, "POLICE ACADEMY" in white silk-screen may run vertical down left leg.
Running shoes- Cadet's choice- (need a lot of support, especially in heel).
