Way of the Future

Do you remember the anticipation you had the night before Christmas? You knew that the next day was going to be filled with so many surprises. Well in 2009, Christmas will come a little earlier for all Cedar Valley College students.
The new CVC Allied Health, Science and Veterinary Technology Center will open fall 2009, and will be a great opportunity for all students to explore an exhilarating indoor and outdoor learning environment.
Construction will begin this fall on the 109,000 square-foot, curved-shaped center that will be located southeast of the Building L. Surrounded by an amphitheatre, covered boardwalk and a footbridge to overlook the perennial stream and its aquatic plants and fish, the new building will overflow with creativity.
Students will have an area where they can participate in a geology walk and dig around in a fossil pit. The new center will also have a place for the students who are looking for a refreshing spot to do homework, read, entertain friends or just relax.
"The new Science, Vet Tech and Allied Health building will be awesome. The new science building will be designed to focus on student learning," says Jennie Pollard, executive dean of the Math, Science and Allied Health Division. "I want students to become excited about math and science again. They need to understand the importance of math and science in our global economy."
Not only will the new center have indoor classrooms, but it will also provide an opportunity to explore the first CVC outdoor learning environment. The outdoor classrooms will provide wet labs for science students to develop hands-on training.
Credit courses offered in the center will consist of archeology/anthropology, astronomy, biology, chemistry, environmental biology, geology and physics. There will also be entry level health occupations that will focus on forensic science, patient care, physical therapy and veterinary technology.
In fall 2009 the CVC education community will expand indefinitely. The doors to the new Allied Health, Science and Veterinary Technology Center will be open for students to develop themselves and their education in a more enthusiastic, fun-filled environment. See you then!
