Tutoring center offers valuable homework help

Cedar Valley College students who need a little extra homework help shouldn't worry-the solution to their studying woes is just a short walk or click away.
The CVC Tutoring Center, located in room C206, offers help with more than 25 subjects and is free to any CVC student.
"If you need help in math, writing or reading we have someone available all hours of operation," says Vicky Ferguson, director of the center. "For help in some of the less requested subjects, students will need to check to see when a tutor is scheduled."
In addition to providing tutoring services, the center also offers a quiet place to study and 15 computers to help with homework assignments.
"I go to the tutoring center for help with math a couple of days a week. Their hours are very convenient for me," notes Johann Ortiz, a CVC student.
As a convenience, CVC students can get homework help by accessing the center's AskOnline program 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with just the click of a mouse. AskOnline allows students to ask tutors questions online or post questions to discussion boards. The tutors who help online are actually the same tutors students see in the center.
"Online tutors respond to questions posted on the discussion board within 48 hours with the exception of weekends. During normal business hours a response is usually sooner," says Ferguson.
For some CVC students, the services offered in the tutoring center have made the difference between passing or failing a class. For Ortiz, the help he has received is priceless. As Ortiz claims, "the Tutoring Center is a place where the paths to answers are found."
The CVC tutoring center is open Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-8p.m. During the fall semester, the center will also be open on Sundays from noon-6 p.m.
