Cathy Richardson

Cathy Richardson Adjunct instructor Cathy Richardson received both the Bachelor's degree in Music Education and Master of Music with a major in violin performance from the University of North Texas. Since then, she has used both degrees, maintaining an active professional performing career and teaching at all levels.

At UNT Cathy studied violin with Robert Davidovici and Philip Lewis and worked with Anshel Brusilow in the orchestra program.

As a professional violinist, she has served as concertmaster of the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra, the Sherman, Texas, Symphony Orchestra and the Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Symphony Orchestra. She has been a full time member of the Dallas Opera Orchestra, the Fort Worth Opera Orchestra and the Knoxville Symphony. As a substitute player, Cathy has played with the Nashville Symphony, the Charleston Symphony, the Louisiana Philharmonic and many local orchestras such as the East Texas Symphony, the Longview Symphony and the North East Texas Symphony Orchestra.

Professional highlights include playing the concertmaster duet from Dvorak's Cello Concerto with Yo-Yo Ma and a tour with Andrea Bocelli. Cathy has played in orchestras accompanying popular performers Yanni, the Moody Blues, Natalie Cole, Reba McIntire, Johnny Mathis, Bob Hope, Dionne Warwick, Three Dog Night, Betty Buckley and Diana Ross. She is also a member of the band at Casa Manana Theatre.

Cathy currently divides her time between working as a free-lance musician and teaching. She teaches violin, viola and string methods at Austin College in Sherman and music appreciation, violin and viola at CVC. In the Spring of 2009, Cathy will begin the first String Ensemble offered at CVC.
