Dr. M. Shane Hurst

Dr. M. Shane Hurst M. Shane Hurst has taught classical voice and musicianship at Cedar Valley since 2001. He earned a bachelor's degree in music composition from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, New York; master's degrees in both vocal performance and composition from Southern Methodist University; and a doctoral degree in musical arts from the University of North Texas. He also teaches at Dallas Baptist University and serves as elder and music minister at Chapel in the Woods Bible Church in Oak Cliff.

Dr. Hurst leads an active theatrical career as actor, vocalist, director, music director and composer. Two of his past productions, Steven Sondheim's "A Little Night Music" and Maury Yeston's "Titanic," both with Lyric Stage, received the prestigious Rabin Award from the Dallas Theatre League. He was featured in the world premiere of a new Larry Gatlin musical, "Look Homeward Honky-Tonk Angel."

As a performer, Dr. Hurst has appeared in numerous musicals, plays, operas, operettas and readings, as well as concert appearances in both classical and commercial venues. Behind the scenes, his most recent work includes serving as director of "Gypsy" for Greater Lewisville Community Theatre, as co-director of David Mamet's "Oleanna" in association with Totally Wow Productions, and as music director of Teatro delle Muse's production of "High School Musical Onstage."
