Beginning of the Semester
Syllabi
- The adjunct faculty is responsible for the preparation/maintenance of course syllabi.
- A complete file of course syllabi for each division will be maintained in appropriate division office.
- Syllabi are reviewed/updated prior to each semester.
In 1997, when Senate Bill 148 passed the 75th Texas Legislature, the faculty and staff of the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) embraced the legislative call to action as an opportunity to revisit the general education curriculum which had been in effect for more than a decade. Since the fall semester of 1997, district committees have been at work to insure that the Core Curriculum of the DCCCD is vibrant, consistent, and aligned with the expectations of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Statewide Advisory Committee for the Core Curriculum:
- READING: the ability to analyze and interpret a variety of printed materials-books, documents and articles-above 12th grade level
- WRITING: the ability to produces clear, correct and coherent prose adapted to purpose, occasion and audience-above 12th grade level
- SPEAKING: the ability to communicate orally in clear, coherent, and persuasive language appropriate to purpose, occasion, and audience-above 12th grade level
- LISTENINIG: analyze and interpret various forms of spoken communication, posses sufficient literacy skills of writing, reading-above 12th grade level
- CRITICAL THINKING: think and analyze at a critical level
- COMPUTER LITERACY: understand our technological society, use computers based technology in communication, solving problems, acquiring information
