Keeping Track of the Semester

Substitute Policy

  • Faculty member is required to arrange for class assignments/instruction in consultation with appropriate supervisor.
  • Contact academic division office for names of current adjunct instructor who are teaching in the same discipline.
  • Faculty members are responsible for contacting these instructors and making arrangements.
  • Faculty members area responsible for financial arrangements between the faculty member and the substitute.

Absence Policy

  • It is important for adjunct faculty to notify their supervisor if they have to be absent for a class session due to illness or any emergency.
  • Notify Adjunct Faculty Office to request cancelled class sign be posted to notify students of your absence.

FIELD TRIP PROCEDURE

Where appropriate, field trips are encouraged as an adjunct to the classroom activity. Field trip requests must be submitted to your division dean for approval a minimum of one week prior to the proposed date of the field trip. Once approval has been given for the field trip, you must obtain waivers of liability from the students who will participate. Supplies of these forms may be obtained from your division office or the Evening Office.

GUEST LECTURERS

The approval of your division dean must be obtained prior to inviting a guest lecturer to the campus. It is the responsibility of your division dean to assure an opportunity for rebuttal if the guest lecturer is to speak on a controversial issue.

EVALUATION

Part time faculty evaluations are based on the items which are outlined on the Instructional Visitation Summary. Your division dean will review this procedure with you.

  1. The items included on this form are:
    1. Course syllabus
    2. Classroom performance appraisal
    3. Student evaluation summary
    4. Any additional areas to be considered in the overall evaluations which are mutually agreed upon in advance by the instructor and supervisor.
  2. Classroom visitations are conducted by the Division Dean or designee.
