EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
NOTIFY CEDAR VALLEY POLICE FIRST IN ALL EMERGENCY CIRCUMSTANCES, 8286. The police will determine whether emergency vehicles should be called.
Refer to the Safety Manual (1999-2000) for specific instructions for each emergency situation; fire, weather, bomb threat, medical, or hazardous material. The instructions below are similar to each of the emergency situations.
Be familiar with evacuation route placards in your area. Any administrator, faculty or staff person who receives a report of, or observes an emergency situation, must:
- Dispatch a person to notify COLLEGE POLICE at 860-8286 (on campus only) and secondly, the Vice President's office at Ext. 8242 or 8261
- Give the police complete information: your name, type of emergency, location of emergency, extent of any injuries, etc.
- Appoint persons to assist each disabled individual to evacuation areas.
- LEAD YOUR GROUP: Instruct the group to follow you in single file to the proper evacuation area. DO NOT USE ELEVATORS in the case of fire or severe weather. At the stairway entrance, stand aside and direct your group into the stairway as traffic coming down from upper floors permits.
- Take control of any disorganized gathering of people or assist in the evacuation process as circumstances dictate.
- Evacuate to the appropriate site for the type of emergency; ie: for weather, go to lower D building and for fire, evacuate to the parking lots.
