Career Planning and Placement Office

Cedar Valley's Career Planning and Placement Office assists students in developing, investigating, initiating and realizing short and long term career goals. To this end, the Center provides a variety of services and acts as an introductory point between students and the world of employment including business, industry, service organizations, school systems and social and government agencies. The Career Planning and Placement office receives an average of 200 new job openings per week. Career Planning and Placement services are available to all students and former students (credit and non credit) of the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD). Community members can use printed material in the Center.

Summary of Services

CHOICES TEST - Assists students in choosing career paths through personal evaluation. Free to existing students. This test is approximately 2 hours long. Testing is provided by appointment only.

RESUME EVALUATION AND ASSISTANCE - Our staff will help you with writing your resume, critiquing your current resume and provide the materials needed to make your resume look professional in the current job market.

UPDATED JOB POSTINGS - Jobs are posted and updated daily and weekly on our bulletin board. Job specific notebooks are also available to students.

ACCESS TO THE DCCCD JOB BANK - By filling out a short one page form we can provide you with access to our job bank. For existing students and alumni only.

CAREER FAIRS - Cedar Valley offers two career fairs, one in the Fall semester and one in the Spring semester with approximately 25 to 40 employers available. We also post local Job Fairs on our bulletin board which are updated monthly. Open to students and the community.
The Fall Career Fair will be held on September 15th, 2004 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Spring Career Fair will be held on April 13th, 2005 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Prior to each Career Fair notices will be posted around the campus and community.

CAREER ADVISEMENT - Mike Alford, our Career Center Placement Coordinator holds a Masters Degree in Social work and is available by appointment to listen to your concerns regarding employment. By appointment only for existing students

EMPLOYMENT RESOURCE INFORMATION: - Informational books that include: "Job Search Handbook for People with Disabilities", "Pathways to Success For Minorities", "Best Careers for Bilingual Latinos", "Guide to Basic Resume Writing", "Best Resumes for People Without a Four-Year Degree" and many more. Videos that aid in answering questions and give information on today's job market and trends. Video viewing by appointment only.

EMPLOYMENT SEMINARS - Free to existing students. Seminars are conducted monthly and will be posted on our bulletin board under Recruiters & Seminars.

ON SITE COLLEGE AND EMPLOYER RECRUITERS - Recruiters make appointments with our career center. We post them weekly on our bulletin board under Recruiters and Seminars. Recruiters are located between B and C buildings and
