Q: What do I need to check out materials?
A: To check out materials, you must have ONE of the following:

  • Cedar Valley College ID card (available in the Office of Student Life, D101)
  • Other DCCCD ID
  • Driver's License or State Issued ID card.

Q: How do I find the books?
A: All DCCCD books are listed on an Online Catalog. You can search for a book by title, subject, author, or keyword. Remember that all of the DCCCD libraries are included in this catalog. If you cannot find a book on the shelf, please make sure it is a Cedar Valley Book (CV). To access the Library Catalog, please click here.

Q: How many items can I check out?
A: We allow a maximum of 10 items. The 10 items may include a combination books, ITV videos, 2-Day videos, DVDs, CDs, CD-ROMs and record albums.

Q: How long can I keep items that I have checked out?
A: The length of time you may keep an item varies according to what you have checked out. The following is a list of items and length of check out periods. Toward the end of the semester, the student's expiration date serves as the due date.

Books 3 weeks
CDs 3 weeks
CD-ROMs 3 weeks
DVD sets Last day of the semester
3-Day Videos 3 days
Record Albums 1 week

Q: Can I renew my books? If so, for how long?
A: Yes. You can renew each book one (1) time for another 3-week period unless a hold has been placed on that item or if that item is overdue. How to Renew Online.

Q: Can I renew my videos/DVDs? If so, for how long?
A: No. Videos and DVDs may not be renewed.

Q: Can I request books from other DCCCD libraries?
A: Yes. A maximum of ten (10) books may be requested from the other DCCCD libraries. This is called Intercollege Loans (ICL). Place a Hold on a Book.

Q: Do you have videos/DVDs that accompany the Telecourses or Distance Learning Courses?
A: We do have videos that accompany most of the telecourses. Instructional Television videos/DVDs (ITV) are available for a 2-day check out with a maximum of 2 videos/DVDs per patron. ITV Videos/DVDs cannot be renewed, nor can holds be placed on them. We also keep copies of these videos/DVDs on Permanent Reserve on the Open Media Shelves. These videos are available for in-library use only. Scripts of the telecourse videos are available online through the Library Catalog.
We have some videos/DVDs that accompany the Distance Learning courses. For more information, please check the Books and Course Materials section on the Dallas Colleges Online website.

Q: Do you carry textbooks for the classes?
A: No, we do not have textbooks for any class unless the instructor has placed a copy on reserve. Instructor's reserves are located at the Circulation desk.

Q: Can I type papers on the library computers?
A: Yes. Our computers are mainly for research purposes, but do have Microsoft Office installed on them. Papers can also be typed in the Student Resource Center (A206) and Business Information Technology Lab (B116).

Q: Can I check my email on the library computers?
A: Yes. All of our computers have Internet access. You may check your DCCCD student email through the DCCCD home page.

Q: Do you charge for printing pages off of the Internet?
A: Yes, printing costs 10 cents per single-sided page. We use an online printing account system. The system accepts only paper money and DOES NOT give change. Money may be added at any time.

Q: My instructor placed something on reserve. Where can I find it?
A: All items placed on reserve are located at the Circulation desk. You need to know the course title and/or your instructor’s name to look up the item. All Reserve items are listed in the Library Catalog by instructor's name or course number.

Q: How can I find periodical articles?
A: A large number of articles may be located by using the Online Databases available from the Cedar Valley College Library website. Choose Online Databases. For further assistance and for help choosing a database, please ask a Reference Librarian.
Cedar Valley College Library also retains some periodicals for one year in print and offers some titles in microform. For further assistance in locating articles and/or periodicals, please ask a Reference Librarian.

Q: How can I get a TexShare Card?
A: A TexShare card is available from the library to currently enrolled students, staff, and faculty. You will need to inquire with a librarian about obtaining a TexShare card that is valid for the duration of the semester in which you are enrolled
