Sustainable Communities Institute

Cedar Valley College encourages all of its Students, Faculty, and Staff to
THINK GREEN.

Cedar Valley College wants to do its part to fight global warming and raise environmental awareness around campus. In this effort, we are encouraging sustainable practices not only in the day-to-day operations of the college, but additionally in the classroom.

The Green Cedar Valley College Program addresses the issues of campus emissions, informative events, and green practices around the campus.

A sustainability arrow chart. The chart consists of three arrows pointing to each other in a circular manner. The arrows are labeled ecological, economical and equity-cultural. The arrows surround a central area with the label of sustainability.

Sustainability can be defined as:

"development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." - The Brundtland Report

Sustainability contains three guiding principles:

Equity - Social and cultural effects from change
Economic - Longevity of business practices
Ecological - How the world around us will be affected in the future

Cedar Valley Green is an initiative that addresses these principles.
